For many of us, this time of year is rich in tradition. We’re taking Christmas trees, cookie baking, gift exchanging and so much more. Over here at Merry Me Events, Team Orange is CRAZY busy planning and designing holiday parties and decking every single hall we can find! But it’s also one of our traditions to find a charity near and dear to us and do our small part to give back.
Over the weekend, a couple Elves in Orange filled our sleigh with goodies and headed to Grand Rapids to volunteer for an awesome foundation called Wins for Warriors. The foundation, founded by Justin Verlander – former Detroit Tigers and current Houston Astros pitcher – gathered 50 West Michigan families and lots of volunteers to help pack Christmas boxes to send local Marines serving in Afghanistan. When it came to making the event at Fifth Third Field near Grand Rapids a true family affair, that’s where Merry Me came in! We brought our “A-Game…” donating a cookie decorating station, photo booth and props, the Big Guy in red (with goodie bags), a craft station decorating ornaments and building snowmen with indoor snow, a candy bar and our time.
With a focus on United States service members, veterans and their families, Wins for Warriors hosts several family-bonding events throughout the year. We chose this charity this year after planning, designing and coordinating a local event for Justin and his wife, Kate Upton, last summer. They are a fun, down-to-earth couple, making our decision to contribute to Wins for Warriors a no brainer!
